Conferences
Do any of you belong to a society, association or attend conferences entirely dedicated to your fields or to the writers, themes, issues you work on? I'm trying to find a conference narrow enough to expect some useful feedback and to discuss similar ideas, arguments, etc with those working on the same time period, authors, themes, etc.

I usually attend comparative literature conferences, and sometimes latin americanist conferences. I often get an oppressive feeling of claustrophobia when I listen to too many mediocre papers in my immediate field. I like the concerns and the level of debate at multi-disciplinary conferences. That said, I was thinking of going back to Kentucky this next year if I don't get accepted at LASA '09 in Rio.
I've mostly been to medieval conferences: Kalamazoo, Medieval Association of the Pacific, that sort of thing. They are not specific to Hispanic Middle Ages, though, so it ends up being multi-disciplinary.
