Interesting. Here's what grabbed me about the article:
"They will also engage in slow-smoking competitions to see who can keep a pipe going the longest. Each contestant is given just two matches. Events, which will go on all weekend, are promoted by the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association."
How many times would I light my corncob last summer?
I guess if we do any more writers retreats I'm going to have to take up pipe smoking. Or maybe I should just bring one of those plastic pipes for blowing soap bubbles.
My summer schedule is still up in the air. I'll be teaching until mid July. If I get accepted to the paleography summer institute, that will take place in late july, early august.

I think we're all in agreement that mouth cancer is small price to pay for the incomparable pleasure of a good pipe.
Do you think anyone has written an article on how to keep a pipe lit? I'd be interested in finding out the secret.

Speaking of writers retreats...we should think about this summer.
I'm game for the old writing retreat if you guys are, but I'd have to think pretty carefully about when might be a good time.
I'm game. Generally from mid-June to mid-August is good for me, except around 4th of July.
